Central Park is now back to normal after a short incursion by travellers who moved onto the grass on 10 August, prompting concern from regular park users and nearby residents.

The group had moved onto the grass within just 40 minutes of a Plymouth City Council bin lorry destroying the access barrier to the park.

Plymouth City Council confirmed that a Notice to Quit would be served and that bins and toilets were provided to minimise clean-up costs while the encampment remained.

Police officers have recently been spotted at the unauthorised encampment and Plymouth Plus can reveal that an allegation of attempted theft involving a mobile phone has been made.

Officers attended and spoke with those involved, issuing words of advice at the scene. No arrests were made and the group has since departed the area.

Plymouth Plus understands the site will be monitored while the damaged barrier is repaired to prevent any repeat incursions.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police told Plymouth Plus:

"Officers attended Central Park following a report of attempted theft shortly after 8pm on Monday 11 August.
"It was reported that a child was behaving in an anti-social manner and had attempted to take a person’s mobile phone.
"Officers spoke to the parents and child and gave words of advice."

A member of the group of travellers previously told Plymouth Plus that:

“It is not every day that we get let into these places and further caravans are on their way.”
