A boutique hotel and wedding venue in Plymouth says it has seen a surge in bookings after appearing on Channel 5’s The Hotel Inspector.

St Annes House in Jennycliff has been riding a wave of interest since the programme aired, with owners Neal Stoneman and partner Tracey now looking ahead to a packed calendar of weddings, parties and corporate events.

The venue, built in 1896, was owned by the Ministry of Defence for more than 100 years before being transformed into a distinctive destination for stays and celebrations.

The hotel recently hosted a Halloween party that guests will not forget in a hurry, after a dramatic night of a power cut, thunder and lightning, and torrential rain crashed the celebrations. None of it was planned, but those there said it only added to the atmosphere.

As winter arrives, St Annes House has also adapted by offering single rooms to book. The house has seven large bedrooms with king size beds, available to book directly or through platforms including Airbnb and Booking.com. Prices start from £50 per person per night.

Neal said the experience of being filmed for national TV was intense but ultimately worth it as the advice from Alex Polizzi helped sharpen how the business runs day to day. He added:

“Featuring on the Hotel Inspector was a pretty daunting experience, but the great advice and ideas that Alex Polizzi gave us; we have taken on board and now we are looking forward to a busy few years of having weddings, parties and corporate events.”

Neal said some of the changes recommended during filming have already been made, including upgrades behind the scenes to keep up with demand. He said:

“We have recently upgraded our IT and computer systems and appointed an assistant manager a few months ago. Which were another 2 suggestions from the Hotel inspector and they have made a big difference to our business moving forwards.”

Bookings are already stacking up for next year, with several weddings and parties planned across spring and summer, and even a potential Halloween wedding being discussed.

A Christmas wedding is already in the diary too, and the team says they have taken bookings and deposits for weddings in 2027.
