Two men arrested after police officer 'assaulted' outside Plymouth nightclub

A police officer was allegedly assaulted in a disorder outside a nightclub in the early hours of this morning.

Police were called at around 12.30am on Monday, 23 March, after a report of a disturbance outside Walkabout on Union Street in Plymouth.

It was reported that two door staff were assaulted as they tried to remove two male pub goers from the premises.

Officers attended the scene and, during the arrest of one of the men, a police officer was allegedly assaulted.

The situation quickly escalated with numerous additional units and an armed response unit arriving at the scene.

A man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and two counts of assault.

He remains in police custody at Charles Cross police station.

Another man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly.

He has since been dealt with by way of a caution.
