A man who passed out in a Plymouth McDonald’s woke up craving chaos instead of chicken nuggets, sparking a full-blown Big Mac Brawl and a visit from three armed police units.
The late-night drama unfolded last night at the Tavistock Road McDonald’s. Police were called at 10.25pm after staff reported a man being aggressive. But when officers arrived, they didn’t find a rowdy customer. They found a snoring one.
The man was completely passed out. Absolutely lights out. Police called an ambulance just to be safe, gave staff some 999 advice in case he woke up grumpy, and headed off.

Then he woke up grumpy. Moments later, the man threw a water bottle and a cup at the assistant manager before turning the restaurant into a full-scale obstacle course. Chairs and tables flew. Staff scattered. Our reporter clutched their fries in fear.
That’s when police deployed the big buns. Three armed response units raced to the scene and arrested the man, in his 40s, on suspicion of assault.
The man was then de-arrested after being taken to hospital over concerns for his health. He will be interviewed once he is medically fit and hopefully no longer angry at seating arrangements.

The McDonald’s has since reopened. Staff have returned to normal service and say they are happy to report that nobody has launched any objects since.
The assistant manager is recovering well, fries are back in formation, and the only thing being thrown now is mild side-eye when the ice cream machine is broken again.
And the moral of the story? Never assume your late night snack won’t turn into breaking news.
