Van completely destroyed in late-night arson attack in Plymouth as police launch investigation

An arson investigation has been launched in Plymouth after a white Ford Transit van is believed to have been deliberately set alight and was destroyed in the early hours of this morning.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they received multiple emergency calls around 11.35pm on Friday (27 June), reporting a van significantly ablaze on Waltham Place, Plymouth.

One fire engine from Camels Head station promptly attended the scene and crews found the van fully engulfed in flames upon arrival.

Firefighters quickly tackled the blaze using one breathing apparatus and one foam jet, successfully extinguishing the fire.

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service stated: "The van was totally destroyed by fire, and the cause is believed to be deliberate. Police have been informed and are investigating."

Officers from Devon and Cornwall Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information regarding the incident to contact them as they seek to identify those responsible.
