Van driver escapes police despite police helicopter being scrambled over Plymouth

The police helicopter was scrambled over Plymouth last night after a van driver failed to stop for police.

A white Mercedes van came to a stop on Warwick Orchard Close in Honicknowle after crashing into a parked vehicle on the dead end.

The male driver of the vehicle then made off on foot and officers carried out an extensive area search.

Despite their best efforts and a police helicopter and dog being deployed the man was not located.

Police have confirmed that enquiries to locate the suspect remain ongoing and the van has been seized.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police told Plymouth Plus:

"This was a report of a vehicle failing to stop, before colliding with a parked car on Warwick Orchard Close, Plymouth, at around 9.30pm.
"The driver then fled and despite the efforts of officers, he was not located. The van has been seized and enquiries to locate the driver remain ongoing."
