Major search and rescue operation near Plymouth for teenage boy

A major search and rescue operation occurred near Plymouth overnight.

Police were called following the disappearance of a teenage boy from the Wembury area.

HM Coastguard were requested by the police and deployed a helicopter and two lifeboats.

An extensive land and sea search was carried out in the vicinity of Wembury Beach and Heybrook Bay.

Thankfully, the teenage boy was located safe in the Plymstock area in the early hours of this morning, Tuesday 16 December.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police told Plymouth Plus:

"Police were called around 7.50pm on Monday 15 December following concern for the welfare of a boy reported missing from the Wembury area.
"Officers, working with HM coastguard, conducted an area search for the boy.
"The teenaged boy was located safe in the Plymstock area in the early hours of Tuesday 16 December."

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard told us yesterday evening:

"At around 8:50 this evening (15 Dec), HM Coastguard received a request from Devon and Cornwall Police for assistance with a search.
"Coastguard rescue teams from Plymouth and Yealm, a coastguard helicopter and lifeboats from Plymouth have been sent."
