Man released with no further action after Plymouth chemical threat

Police have confirmed that a man arrested following a large-scale response in Plymouth’s North Prospect area has been released without charge.

The dramatic events unfolded on Tuesday, 13 May, after armed officers and specialist units descended on Grassendale Avenue.

A cordon was put in place and a residential property was surrounded, following reports of a man making threats and being in possession of an unknown substance.

Devon and Cornwall Police have now issued an update. A spokesperson told Plymouth Plus:

"We were contacted following concerns for the welfare of a man at an address in the North Prospect area of Plymouth.
"It was reported that a man had been making threats and was in possession of an unknown substance.
"Officers attended the address on Tuesday 13 May.
"A quantity of chemicals was found, but these were legitimately and legally held products for cleaning purposes.
"A man in his 30s was arrested in connection with this matter and has now been released from custody with no further police action being taken."

Officers remained at the location into the evening, with local residents urged to avoid the area.
