Morrisons delivery driver cheats death as van destroyed in Plymouth fire

A food delivery driver made a lucky escape after a refrigerated Morrisons van went up in flames in Plymouth last night (22 October).

Firefighters were called to Ayreville Road in the Beacon Park area after reports of a van on fire.

The vehicle was well alight when crews arrived and was destroyed by the blaze.

Firefighters used their best efforts to contain the blaze. The remains of the vehicle were recovered from the scene once the fire was extinguished.

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service told Plymouth Plus:

"We were called at 8.45pm to a Mercedes van well alight and sent one appliance.
"The crew used breathing apparatus and hose reel jets to extinguish the fire and cutting equipment to disconnect the battery.
"Accidental cause."
