Despite the gloomy weather, hundreds of festive shoppers have already visited the new-look Plymouth Christmas Market in the city centre which opened at 10am today.

Award-winning operators Market Place are behind the annual extravaganza in Armada Way’s Piazza — and the firm has this year transformed the open area into a winter wonderland of around 50 decorated chalets selling all sorts of diverse seasonal fare from across the world.

The market, which is open every day and runs all the way to 5pm on Sunday 21 December — Winter Solstice, no less — is free for visitors to explore and ‘promises a vibrant shopping experience filled with unique and meaningful gifts’.

It’s open between 10am and 7pm Monday to Wednesday and 10am to 8pm Thursday to Saturday. On Sundays, it opens at 11am and closes at 5pm.

Alex Pidgen, market manager at Market Place, says:

“Our aim is to create a joyful and immersive destination that delights visitors, supports local businesses and drives city centre footfall.”

Stalls at the Plymouth Christmas Market 2025 are offering decadent festive goodies like Belgian chocolates, Greek gyros, giant bratwurst, Yorkshire pudding wraps and loaded doughnuts. There’s also a German bar selling warm mugs of Glühwein.

And it’s not just about stuffing your face. Local artworks, ceramics and jewellery are also on the menu alongside Christmas decorations, candles and winter warming clothing. Four local young entrepreneurs and their brands are also plying their wares at a special chalet that has been given to them free of charge — they will man it on a rotational basis.

What about the entertainment, though? No fear — there’s a stage at the 2025 Plymouth Christmas Market that is hosting choir concerts, acoustic sets, vintage jazz and contemporary dance performances from a range of local talents. Plus, families can step inside a giant snowglobe in the Piazza or take part in a weekly winter scavenger hunt created in partnership with Plymouth Pavilions.

Steve Hughes, Plymouth City Centre Company’s Chief Executive, said:

“We look forward to seeing residents and visitors alike embrace everything the market has to offer.”
