Teen cyclist suffers serious injuries after Plymouth collision with van

A teenage boy has been seriously injured after a crash involving a white Ford Transit van in Plymouth on Wednesday evening.

Emergency services rushed to the scene on Kings Road, near the entrance to Richmond Walk car park, at around 5.50pm last night following reports of a collision between a cyclist and a van.

The boy, believed to be in his teens, sustained serious injuries and was initially taken to Derriford Hospital by ambulance.

He has since been transferred to Bristol Children’s Hospital for specialist treatment. His family has been informed.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said:

"We were notified at around 5.50pm yesterday, Wednesday 7 may, to reports of a collision involving a bicycle and a white Transit van on Kings Road in Devonport, Plymouth.
"The cyclist, a boy in his teens, sustained serious injuries and was conveyed to Derriford Hospital by ambulance.
"He has since been transferred to Bristol Children’s Hospital. His next of kin have been informed."

Police are now appealing to witnesses, especially those with dashcam footage, who may have seen the collision or captured the moments before or after the incident.

"Anyone who witnessed the collision or has information regarding it – in particular anyone with any with Dashcam footage, are asked to contact us online or via 101 quoting 50250114197."
