Woman seriously injured in Plymouth motorbike crash on Embankment Road

A woman has sustained potentially serious injuries after coming off the back of a motorcycle on Embankment Road this afternoon.

What we know so far:

  • The crash involved a motorcycle and a pillion passenger
  • It happened just before 2pm on Thursday 15 May
  • Embankment Road was closed heading towards Marsh Mills
  • A woman has suffered potentially serious injuries
  • Drivers are being advised to avoid the area

The incident happened shortly before 2pm on Thursday, May 15, and saw police and paramedics rush to the scene, closing the road heading towards Marsh Mills.

The northbound section of Embankment Road (A374) between Laira Bridge Road and Lanhydrock Road was closed, causing significant delays on surrounding roads.

Long queues formed across Gdynia Way and Hele’s Terrace. A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police told Plymouth Plus:

"We are currently at the scene of an incident on Embankment Road, where it is reported that a passenger on a motorbike has come off while the bike was moving.
"She is believed to have sustained potentially serious injuries.
"The surrounding area has been closed while the incident is ongoing.”

Witnesses reported seeing drivers perform U-turns along Gdynia Way and Embankment Road in an effort to avoid the traffic, adding to the disruption in the area.

Emergency crews treated the injured woman at the roadside. Her condition is still being assessed.
