Air Ambulance crews were called to four back-to-back emergencies across Devon in the space of around two hours this morning (1 August).
The first emergency came in shortly after 7am following reports that a person had been struck by a train on the railway line between Exeter and Newton Abbot.
Specialist critical care medics were sent to the scene before crews were tasked to a separate emergency in Sherford.
Around 20 minutes later, the team were scrambled to a third emergency which was in Plymouth, with one of its helicopters landing on Plymouth Hoe.
The fourth callout of the morning took crews to Tavistock, where a Devon Air Ambulance helicopter landed at Tavistock College shortly after 9am.
Devon Air Ambulance operates two helicopters, with G-DAAS based at Exeter Airport covering South Devon and G-DAAN based at Eaglescott Airfield covering North Devon.
The helicopters allow crews to bring hospital-level treatment directly to the scene of life-threatening emergencies before patients are taken to the most appropriate hospital for further care.
Devon Air Ambulance is funded by charitable donations and relies on public support to provide its lifesaving service.
The charity also operates critical care cars which can respond alongside its helicopters.
