A teenager has been saved this evening (17 September) after his RHIB sank off the coast of Plymouth.
The local teenage boy was rescued by volunteer RNLI crew aboard Plymouth’s inshore lifeboat before being transferred to the all-weather lifeboat.
The RHIB (rigid-hulled inflatable boat) sank in the vicinity of Wembury Bay at about 7.20pm.
HM Coastguard also sent the R924 search and rescue helicopter from Newquay Airport to the scene.
Paramedics from the South Western Ambulance Service attended Plymouth Lifeboat Station, where the casualty was brought ashore.
Thankfully, the casualty was discharged home after warming up at the lifeboat station. A spokesperson for HM Coastguard told Plymouth Plus:
"A man on a RHIB reported to have sunk in Wembury Bay at about 7.20pm on 17 September was rescued safe and well from the water by an RNLI inshore lifeboat from Plymouth.
"An HM Coastguard helicopter was also sent. The man was transferred to an RNLI all-weather lifeboat from Plymouth and brought back to land where he was met by Yealm Coastguard Rescue Team."
