Emergency department extremely busy with 45-hour wait to see a doctor

Derriford Hospital’s emergency department is extremely busy, with its longest waiting time standing at more than 45 hours.

​Figures published by the hospital as of 6.30pm this evening, Thursday (13 August), show the longest current waiting time to see a practitioner as 2,723 minutes - equivalent to 45 hours and 23 minutes.

A total of 123 patients were in the emergency department at the time, with 46 patients waiting to be seen.

The figure represents the longest waiting time listed by the hospital and does not mean every patient attending the emergency department will face the same wait.

It is very important that you only attend the Emergency Department for life or limb threatening conditions.
