Hundreds of protesters marched across the Tamar Bridge this afternoon (25 July) demanding an end to tolls between Plymouth and Cornwall.
The peaceful demonstration was organised by the Tamar Toll Action Group (TTAG), who are campaigning for the abolition of tolls on the Tamar crossings and a fundamental change to the way they are funded.
Campaigners gathered in Alexandra Square in Saltash from 12.30pm before making their way across the Tamar Bridge towards Plymouth.
Large crowds could be seen walking across the bridge carrying banners and placards as they called for the tolls to be scrapped.
A convoy of vehicles also travelled across the bridge, with horns sounding as protesters made their way across the River Tamar.
Police liaison officers from Devon and Cornwall Police were present throughout the protest, which remained peaceful and did not cause any significant disruption.
The demonstration comes as pressure continues to grow for the Government to provide financial support for the Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry and reduce the burden placed on people who regularly travel between Devon and Cornwall.
TTAG has long campaigned for a toll-free Tamar and says the current funding arrangements unfairly impact locals who rely on the vital crossings.
