Despite the best efforts from emergency services, the driver of the vehicle, a 78-year-old woman from Saltash was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police are now trying to piece together exactly what happened in the moments before the collision and are appealing for witnesses to get in touch with them.

It is understood the woman suffered a medical episode while reversing, which led to the Volvo moving through the car park and striking the other vehicles.

No one in the car park is believed to have been in those vehicles at the time, which were a Suzuki Swift, a Ford Focus and a Mercedes Sprinter van, and there are no reports of anyone else being injured.

Police shut off part of the supermarket car park for several hours so specialist collision investigators could conduct an investigation.
