Fire breaks out inside Tesco Lee Mill bakery as shoppers evacuated

Emergency services were called to the supermarket today after a fire prompted a full store evacuation.

Shoppers were forced to evacuate Tesco Lee Mill this afternoon after a fridge burst into flames in the bakery section.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that they were called to the scene at around 3:45pm today following reports of a fire at the popular store just outside of Plymouth.

Two fire appliances were sent to the scene, but by the time they arrived, Tesco staff had already extinguished the fire.

Smoke had reportedly filled part of the store, prompting swift action to evacuate everyone safely.

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service told Plymouth Plus:

"We were called at 3.45pm to a fire involving a fridge unit in the bakery.
"Staff extinguished the fire prior to our arrival but we did send fire engines.
"The shop was evacuated and smoke could be seen."

No injuries were reported, and the store was temporarily closed while the area was ventilated and checked for safety.
