A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a 'stabbing' in Plymouth last night.
Police and paramedics were called to reports of a serious assault on North Hill in the Mutley area at around 7.20pm.
An eyewitness told Plymouth Plus that a man was "stabbed multiple times in the middle of the road on North Hill".
They described seeing a knife and added that "various people attempted to intervene and remove the knife from the hands of a person".
Plymouth Plus understands that the suspect is white British and was wearing military style clothing alongside a green beret when the incident took place.
The victim was rushed to Derriford Hospital with what police have described as life-changing injuries.
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said:
"We were called to reports of a serious assault on North Hill, Plymouth at around 7.20pm on Tuesday 15 September.
"It was reported that a man sustained life changing injuries and has been taken to hospital.
"A man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, assault occasioning grievous bodily harm and possession of a bladed article in a public place. He remains in police custody.
"Emergency services are currently at the scene and enquiries are ongoing."
