People across Plymouth can now travel by bus completely free every weekend throughout September.
The money-saving offer begins this weekend and means passengers who start their journey within in Plymouth will not have to pay a penny to travel on participating local bus services.
Free travel is available on:
- Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September
- Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September
- Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September
- Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September
The operators taking part are:
- Plymouth Citybus, including Go Cornwall services operating within Plymouth
- Stagecoach South West
- Tally Ho
Passengers can travel for free at any time from the start of service on Saturday until the end of service on Sunday. Anyone making an eligible journey will be issued with a zero-value ticket when they board.
The offer also applies to journeys travelling beyond Plymouth, provided passengers board at an eligible stop within the city boundary. This means someone boarding in Plymouth can travel out of the city for free on participating services.
However, anyone beginning their journey outside Plymouth will still need to pay the normal fare into the city. Their return journey will then be free if it starts within Plymouth.
Plymouth Citybus services running as Plymouth Argyle match day specials are not included, while the Stagecoach South West Falcon service is also excluded.
The scheme covers dozens of routes across the city, including services connecting the Plymouth City Centre with Plympton, Derriford Hospital, Southway, Whitleigh, Ernesettle, Keyham, the Barbican and the Hoe.
The free travel initiative is being funded through the Department for Transport Bus Services Grant and delivered by the Plymouth Enhanced Bus Partnership.
The scheme is responding to Transport Focus survey feedback which found affordability and value for money were among the key concerns raised by people using buses in Plymouth.
