Plymouth’s newly elected councillors have officially taken office after signing their declarations at Plymouth City Council today.
Fourteen Reform UK and two Green Party councillors joined two re-elected Labour councillors as they formally became members of Plymouth City Council following last week’s local elections.
The new councillors took part in training today, including a mock council meeting to help them understand the chamber's ceremonial procedures.
As part of the formal process, councillors were required to read aloud and sign an undertaking before taking up their roles.
The undertaking reads as follows:
“I, as a Councillor, having been elected to the office of member of Plymouth City Council, declare that I take that office upon myself and will duly and faithfully fulfil the duties of it according to my judgment and ability.
“I undertake to observe the Code as to the conduct which is expected of members of Plymouth City Council, adopted on 21 March 2022, as amended.”
The new Reform UK councillors:
Nicola Cooke has been elected to Budshead.
Helen Kelly has been elected to Compton.
Paul Rielly has been elected to Devonport.
Chris Sharpe has been elected to Efford and Lipson.
Paul Hagan has been elected to Eggbuckland.
Shaun Hooper has been elected to Honicknowle.
Andrew Crumplin has been elected to Moor View.
Angie Smith has been elected to Plympton Chaddlewood.
Vanessa Tyler has been elected to Plympton St Mary.
Grace Stickland has been elected to Plymstock Dunstone.
Jacqueline Sansom has been elected to Southway.
Mark Hadfield has been elected to St Budeaux.
Andy Rose has been elected to St Peter and the Waterfront.
Ben Rowe has been elected to Ham.
The new Green Party councillors:
Saahi Aroori has been elected to Drake.
Byran Driver has been elected to Sutton and Mount Gould.
The new Conservative councillor:
John Mahony has been elected to Plymstock Radford.
The returning Labour councillors:
Tom Briars-Delve has been re-elected to Stoke.
Jeremy Goslin has been re-elected to Peverell.
The first meeting involving the new councillors will be Plymouth City Council’s annual general meeting on 22 May.
