A woman has been arrested after a six-month-old baby boy sadly died in Plymouth last night.
Detectives are investigating the death of the child following a major emergency response in Devonport.
Emergency services were called at around 7.30pm on Monday, 27 April, after concerns were raised for the welfare of the baby boy.
Flying medics from the Cornwall Air Ambulance were scrambled to the incident and landed nearby at the Plymouth Cricket Club.
The South Western Ambulance Service also sent two double crewed land ambulances and an operational officer to the scene.
Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the six-month-old baby boy was sadly confirmed deceased at the scene on Charles Darwin Road.
A woman in her 30s has been arrested on suspicion of child neglect and remains in police custody at the time of reporting.
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police told Plymouth Plus:
"Detectives are investigating the death of a baby in the area of Charles Darwin Road and Pembroke Street last night.
"Officers were called by the ambulance service at 7.30pm on Monday 27 April, after concerns were raised for the child.
"The baby was sadly confirmed deceased at the scene.
"A woman in her 30s has been arrested on suspicion of child neglect. She remains in police custody.
"Enquiries are currently ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the death."
