Man named and charged with offences after armed police stop car in Plymouth

A man has been charged after a police traffic stop saw the police helicopter deployed above Plymouth yesterday afternoon.

The vehicle, a silver Ford Focus, was brought to a stop on Outland Road at around 5.30pm on Sunday 19 April.

Officers from the roads policing team, supported by armed police and a dog unit brought the vehicle to a safe stop and arrested a man at the scene.

Following the arrest, the Crown Prosecution Service has authorised charges against the suspect.

Lewis Seaman, 35, of Tulip Lane, Plymouth, has been charged with driving while disqualified, possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and driving without insurance.

He was remanded into custody and will appear at Plymouth Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 5 May.
