First picture of man accused of Plymouth murder

The man accused of murdering 28-year-old Harry Jackson has appeared in court for the first time today.

Mark Carpenter, 57, of Embankment Road, Plymouth, appeared at Plymouth Magistrates’ Court today, Friday (8 May).

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Plymouth Crown Court on Monday (11 May).

Carpenter had a black eye as he stood in the dock for the short hearing, speaking only to confirm his details.

Prisoner transport staff later provided the murder suspect with a towel to cover his head as he left the court this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to a property on Embankment Road at around 8.20pm on bank holday Monday (4 May).

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, Mr Jackson was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed and continue to be supported by specially trained family liaison officers.

Detective Inspector Jo Rotchell from the Major Crime Investigation Team at Devon and Cornwall Police said:

"This is a tragic incident in which a person has lost their life.
"Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Harry at this incredibly difficult time. We will continue to support those affected.”
